Paterson Resident Dinnik Mahoney Shoots Self in Connection with October Shooting Investigation

On October 3, 2017, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office arrested a 23 (twenty-three) year old male, Dinnick Mahoney, as he was connected to a shooting that took place on October 1st in the vicinity of 253 Broadway in Paterson, New Jersey. Mr. Mahoney is a resident of the city of Paterson and is being charged with Third-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Sawed-Off Shotgun, Third-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Shotgun and Second-Degree Certain Person Not to Have Weapons.

Paterson police officers were notified by a concerned citizen about a man who saw a shotgun laying on the property of 253 Broadway. After police officers retrieved the weapon, they found Mr. Mahoney with a severe gunshot injury in front of 190 Hamilton Avenue in Paterson. Emergency services took Mr. Mahoney to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. It is suspected that Mr. Mahoney shot himself.

The maximum penalty for an ordinary term would be 10 years in NJ State Prison with a minimum of 60 months to be served before parole eligibility. The Graves Act applies which requires a minimum of 42 months to be served before parole eligibility.

All persons are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
