May 24, 2017, Sayreville resident Niktor Yashchyshyk, 51, was walking his dog when we was attacked, seemingly randomly by Earl Allayne, 20, of the Parlin region in Sayreville.

Yashchshyk was found about a block away from his house by another dog walker, unconscious, with a broken jaw, a skull fracture and with several teeth knocked out. He was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and remained in critical condition until his death two days later.

It is believed that Earl Allayne attacked, robbed, and assaulted Mr. Yashchshyk, while taking his dog, and trying to kill it by dragging and swinging it around on the leash. The dog managed to escape by wiggling out of the leash and running back to its home.

Earl Allayne was pursued by the Old Bridge Police Department and chased on foot around the Glenwood Apartments. The suspect ran and attempted to hide in a utility room but he was caught after the police surrounded the area and led residents to safety.

All persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
