Elizabeth Resident Charged with Fatal Motorcycle Crash

On December 13, 2017, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office broadcasted the arrest of a man named Romulo Meneses-Alvarez for a fatal collision with a motorcycle on October 31, 2017. Meneses-Alvarez is a thirty (30) year old resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey.

The victim that was struck by Romulo Meneses-Alvarez’s vehicle was identified as Jairo Lozano, a twenty-nine (29) year old resident of Elizabeth. In addition, Meneses-Alverez was a police officer in Elizabeth, however he was off-duty at the time of the accident. Lozano was immediately taken by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the Trinitas Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was died soon thereafter from the injuries he sustained.

Romulo Meneses-Alvarez was charged on December 12, 2017 for Third-Degree Strict Liability Vehicular Homicide, as he caused the death of Jairo Lozano by operating a motor vehicle while being intoxicated or under the influence.

All persons are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
