Man Arrested in Connection with Shooting Investigation

Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office announces the arrest of Jose Reyes, a 42-year-old Passaic resident, in relation to a shooting occurrence that occurred on November 22, 2017. This shooting took place in the vicinity of 128th Passaic Street in Passaic, New Jersey. Charges against Mr. Reyes are Second-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second-Degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second-Degree Aggravated Assault, and Fourth-Degree Aggravated Assault.

The Passaic Police Department were made aware and acted upon a report of shots being fired in the vicinity of 128th Passaic Street in Passaic, New Jersey. A car was found to have been hit by bullets, however no civilians appeared injured from the incident. Law enforcement were able to apprehend Mr. Reyes as a result of a video of the incident.

Mr. Reyes’ sentencing for the above listed charges are as follows:
Second-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon = 5-10 years NJ State Prison with a minimum of 3 ½ years before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act,
Second-Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose = 5-10 years NJ State Prison with a minimum of 3 ½ years before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act,
Second-Degree Aggravated Assault = 5-10 years NJ State Prison with 85% of that term to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act, 3 years parole supervision thereafter,
Fourth-Degree Aggravated Assault = 18 months NJ State Prison to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act.

A court appearance has been scheduled for Mr. Reyes to appear at Central Judicial Processing on November 25, 2017. The State aims to file a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
All persons are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
