Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced additional charges filed against RAMON J. CONTRERAS of Palisades Park, New Jersey (DOB:: 07/15/1961), those charges being Aggravated Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit under the direction of Deputy Chief Robert ANZILOTTI and the Palisades Park Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Lieutenant Mark JACKSON.
As previously reported, on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, as a result of a joint investigation between the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Palisades Park Police Department, Ramon J. CONTRERAS was arrested and charged with one (1) count of Sexual Assault (2C:14-2b) and one (1) one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (2C:24-4a). The investigation continued after the arrest of CONTRERAS, and an additional victim was discovered. That victim was assaulted by him on several occasions when he/she was younger than thirteen (13) years old.
On July 6, 2016, Ramon J. CONTRERAS was additionally charged with one (1) count of Aggravated Sexual Assault (2C:14-2a(1)), a 1st degree crime and one (1) count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (2C:24-4a), a 3rd degree crime. The Honorable Frances A. McGrogan, J.S.C. set bail at $200,000.00, full cash. As conditions of bail, Ramon J. CONTRERAS is to have no contact with the victim and victim’s family, no contact with anyone under the age of 18 years old, must surrender his passport and not apply for a new passport. He remains in the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Palisades Park Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
