Catholic School Teacher Theresa Hrindo Charged with Sexual Assault Against Student

Theresa Hrindo, 25, of Linden, NJ, has been arrested and charged with engaging in sexual acts with a student of hers at Roselle Catholic High School. Hrindo has been charged with two counts of sexual assault in the second-degree, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the third-degree, and one count of hindering apprehension.

The arrest comes after a tree-week investigation by the Special Victims Unit in Passaic County. The investigation touched off after a referral came in from the Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The charges against Hrindo allege that she committed sexual acts with the student several times, starting from December 2016 until February 2017. The charges of hindering apprehension result from Hrindo allegedly deleting incrimination photos from the student’s phone.

Hrindo is currently suspended from her position as a technology teacher at Roselle Catholic High School. Hrindo is herself an alumni of Roselle Catholic, and her teaching position at Roselle Catholic was her first since graduating from Kean University in 2014. Hrindo does not have a degree in education and does not hold any teachers license.

Hrindo graduated with a degree in graphic design, and was hired to teach that to the students at Roselle Catholic. Hrindo was released on the conditions that she have no contact with the student and she cannot teach any children at this time. Her next appearance in court is set for May 2017.

All persons are presumed innocent unless found guilty by a court of law.
