Two Hell Angels’ Members Convicted and Sentenced to Prison For Daylight Retaliation Killing an Individual and Fatally Injuring Another After a Shooting Between Two Rival Gang Members

Two members of the Hell’s Angels were convicted and sentenced to prison following a 2020 shooting in the Allerton area, which left one Pagans motorcycle gang member deceased, and another in critical condition, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced.

According to District Attorney Clark, the incident occurred outside the Hells Angels’ headquarters where the defendants shot the victims in retaliation. He further elaborated on the case stating that the defendants undertook his violent acts in broad daylight in a residential area close to a busy intersection. Following the trial, the defendants pleaded guilty and will now serve time in jail.

District Attorney Clark revealed that the defendants, Sayanon Thongthawath, age of 32 and resident of 53rd Street, Queens, and Frank Tatulli, age of 61 and resident of Hollywood Avenue, pleaded guilty on November 16, 2023. Tatulli was convicted and sentenced to fifteen years to life in jail on January 4, 2024. He was convicted on the charge of second-degree murder, while Thongthawath sentenced to 13 years in prison and five years post-release supervision for first-degree Manslaughter. The sentences were pronounced by Bronx Supreme Court Justice, George Villegas.

Highlights of the Investigations

According to investigations, the defendants drove a vehicle to 2522 Holland Avenue on May 2, 2020, where they shot at Javier Cruz, age of 42, injuring him on his arm. They also shot at Francisco Rosado, age of 51, hitting him five times. It was gathered that the shooting was in retaliation for a gunfire session outside of the Hell Angels’ headquarters on Longstreet Avenue. The gunfire occurred on January 2, 2020.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Homicide Counsel, Assistant District Attorney, John Miras, under the supervision of the Chief of the Homicide Bureau, Christine Scaccia. The overall supervisors of the investigations were the Deputy Chief of the Trial Division, James Brennan, and the Chief of the Trial Division, Theresa Gottlieb. 

District Attorney appreciated Trial Preparation Assistants, Jonathan Romero, and Jazmine Pagoada, for their collaboration in the case. He also applauded NYPD Detective, Michael Gersch, of the 49th Precinct and NYPD Detective, Anthony Velez, of the Bronx Homicide Squad for their tireless work during the investigation.
