Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. GREWAL announced the arrest of thirty-seven-year-old SHERMAN PALMER of 202 Stanley Place, Hackensack, New Jersey (DOB: 07/14/1979) on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest came about as the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victims Unit under the direction of Officer in Charge, Deputy Chief Robert ANZILOTTI, and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge, Captain Francesco AQUILA.
On Thursday, July 21, 2016, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (“DCP&P”) received information that a 14-year-old female juvenile was sexually assaulted by an adult male at a location in Hackensack. DCP&P notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victims Unit, which subsequently commenced a joint investigation with the Hackensack Police Department.
Following the investigation, Sherman PALMER was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault (2C:14-2a), a 1st degree crime and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (2C:24-4a), a 2nd degree crime. The Honorable Magali FRANCOIS, J.S.C. of Bergen County set bail at $250,000.00 with no ten percent option. As conditions of bail, PALMER is to have no contact with the victim and her family, must surrender his passport, and surrender any firearms. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail. He is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court for a first appearance on Wednesday, July 25, 2016, at 9:00 a.m.
Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Hackensack Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
