Angela M. Jones of Newark Tracked Down, Arrested After Bizarre Virginia Gas Station Attack

NEWARK, N.J. (April 5, 2017)– A Newark woman was arrested today, April 5, at her Fairmount Avenue home after she was tracked down for attacking a man with a hammer at a Virginia gas station over the weekend.

Angela M. Jones, 26, was arrested by Essex County sheriff’s detectives at her Fairmount Ave. residence.

Jones was wanted by Caroline County, Virginia authorities in the alleged assault that happened Saturday. Witnesses said Jones accosted a Massachusetts man who was gassing up his Porsche SUV, saying she was “sick of fancy white people.” When he didn’t respond, she is accused of smashing his Porsche and the boat it was hauling with a hammer, according to a report on Virginia television station CBS 6.

A statement issued by the Caroline County, Virginia sheriff’s office said, “It is believed Angela Jones then attacked the owner of the SUV and the boat while allegedly making racial slurs by referring to the victims as ‘rich’ and ‘white.”

A witness at the scene took a cell phone photo, which was used to identify Jones, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff Tony Lippa, Caroline County, said hate crime charges are being considered, according to CBS 6. Jones in in the Essex County Jail, accused of assault and vandalism, and is expected to be extradited to Virginia to face charges there.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
