5 Men Arrested after 33 Pounds of New Jersey Bound Cocaine Was Seized in California

NEWARK, NJ (June 21, 2017)

California Police arrested five men, two of which are Mexican Nationals, following an investigation of a cocaine distribution scheme. They were arraigned today in Newark federal court. The defendants are as follows:

Froylan Gil Palomaras, aka “Froilan Gill”, 39, Mexico
Javier Armando Cortes Quintal, 48, Mexico
Efrain Cardenas Alcaras, aka “Ifrain Alcaras Cardenas”, 39, Sunnyville, Washington
Sergio Kevin Calvio Ayala, aka “Kevin Calveo”, 28, Fontana, California
Luis Tomas Alba Urena, 53, Prospect Park, New Jersey

Between August 2016, and February 2017, police officials investigated and observed the men, learning of the plot to transport the cocaine. Finally on February 8, they saw a transaction being carried out with an unidentified person. They promptly stopped and searched the Jeep being used in the exchange and confiscated 15 kilograms, or 33 pounds, of cocaine and a .380 caliber gun. The car was allegedly on its way to New Jersey.

The charge of intent to distribute over 5 kilos of cocaine carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison. The maximum sentence is life in prison along with $10 million in fines.

All persons are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
