On October 9th, 2025, the arrest of Barshon Jamison and James Lattimore, ages 34 and 33, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Barshon Jamison and James Lattimore were charged with second-degree Murder, second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and both second and third-degree Assault.. The arrest and charges against Barshon Jamison and James Lattimore were a result of an investigation handled by officers and detectives from the New York Police Department’s 32nd Precinct

According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, there was a prior altercation between the defendants and the victim, 32-year old Hamid Thomas. Alleged court documentation and statements made on record claim that Barshon Jamison and James Lattimore had known the victim for several years prior to the assault and murder incidents. At approximately 11:40 a.m. on July 14th, 2025, both defendants confronted Hamid Thomas and allegedly assaulted him before going to Barshon Jamison’s apartment to change outfits and put on ski masks. Around three hours later at 2:40 p.m. the defendants relocated to Drew-Hamilton Houses located near West 142nd Street and 7th Avenue. Barshon Jamison stood at the end of a nearby church’s courtyard alone waiting for Hamit Thomas to arrive before contacting James Lattimore to also arrive. Hamit Thomas was riding a scooter at the time when he entered the courtyard and passed by James Lattimore before Barshon Jamison allegedly ran into the courtyard, pulled out a firearm, and fired several shots hitting the victim’s midsection and one arm. One of the bullets fired ended up grazing a female bystander and she was attempting to flee the scene. Both victims were transported to a local hospital where Hamid Thomas was pronounced dead. Allegedly the defendants fled from the scene westbound on West 143rd Street, Barshon Jamison being located and arrested in Rochester, New York, on August 27th, 2025, and James Lattimore being located and arrested in Bronx, New York. Barshon Jamison’s sister also faces criminal charges for allegedly meeting with him and driving him out of Manhattan, New York, after the alleged shooting.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Barshon Jamison and James Lattimore are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
