Vernon Glass and Lusascha Taylor Charged with Criminal Trespass for Squatting in Bayside Home

Story by Ethan

On September 25th, 2026, the arrest of Vernon Glass and Lusascha Taylor, both aged 41, was announced by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. Vernon Glass and Lusascha Taylor were charged with second-degree Burglary, second-degree Grand Larceny, and second-degree Criminal Trespass. The arrest and charges against Vernon Glass and Lusascha Taylor were a result of an investigation handled by the Queens District Attorney’s Office.

According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, a home property on 205th Street in Bayside, New York, was left unoccupied after the home owner died in 2018 and didn’t have any heirs or leave a will for someone to inherit it. Prior to his passing the homeowner committed to a reverse mortgage contract for the property with a finance company, leading to a lien being placed against the property by the company. After a ruling in the Queens County Surrogate’s Court the ownership of the property was declared in May to be the Public Administrator. An investigation was then initiated by the Queens District Attorney’s Office after receiving reports of squatters being in the residence. Surveillance of the property captured both Vernon Glass and Lusascha Taylor entering and exiting the house, in addition to corroborating statements from neighbors indicating the defendants have been living there for approximately two and a half years. Both defendants also went on to use the address of the property on both of their drivers licenses. Vernon Glass and Lusascha Taylor were both arrested at the property on September 24th, 2026, and the house was padlocked.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Vernon Glass and Lusascha Taylor are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
