Lawrence Nadien of Nevada Charged with Grand Larceny for the Theft of Deceased Wife’s Social Security Benefits

Story by Ethan

On June 12th, 2026, the arrest of Lawrence Nadien, age 56, was announced by Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly. Lawrence Nadien was charged with second-degree Grand Larceny as a class C felony. The arrest and charges against Lawrence Nadien were a result of an investigation handled by the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and Nassau County Police Department’s Fugitive Squad

According to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, in February 2026 allegations of the theft of SSA Title II Disability Insurance Benefits designated for Donna Spivak, Lawrence Nadien’s wife, were reported by the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General. This was a result of an initiative sought out to identify potentially deceased SSA beneficiaries whose pay statuses and deaths weren’t reported to the SSA. The investigation into Donna Spivak revealed that she had died on August 24th, 2014, in the Bronx, New York, while currently in pay status with SSA for disability benefits. Lawrence Nadien was listed on the death certificate as the informant. After her death Donna Spivak continued receiving $2,195 a month that was deposited into a TD Bank checking account jointly owned by both the defendant and his wife. The final address for the record of the SSA benefits was on Duckpond Drive North in Wantagh. The investigation uncovered bank records that revealed Lawrence Nadien withdrew and transferred the monthly SSA payments to his personal TD Bank checking account. From August 24th, 2026, until October 21st, 2024, Lawrence Nadien had allegedly fraudulently received approximately $227,258 in SSA benefits despite the SSAOIG requesting the benefits funds be terminated as the defendant was not entitled to them. Lawrence Nadien was arrested on May 22nd, 2026, by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department before his extradition by the Nassau County Police Department’s Fugitive Squad back to Nassau County

The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Lawrence Nadien are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
