On June 29th, 2026, the arrest of Hector Deleon, age 51, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Hector Deleon was charged with first-degree Assault as a class B felony, six counts of first-degree Attempted Assault as a class C felony, seven counts of second-degree Attempted Murder as a class B felony, and four counts of second-degree Assault as a class D felony. The arrest and charges against Hector Deleon were a result of an investigation handled by Amtrak Investigators Alrazi Alli and Almedin Javorovac, and Amtrak Sergeant Sharon Patterson.
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 7:00 p.m. on June 7th, 2026, Hector Deleon made his way to the NJ Transit area of Penn Station located on 31st Street and Seventh Avenue. While in the station the defendant allegedly pulled out a concealed fixed blade knife before physically attacking an unidentified man sitting on the floor. After stabbing the man’s throat the defendant then shifted his attention to a nearby woman who he proceeded to stab in her chest. Hector Deleon then made his way to a 60-year-old man and attempted to stab his neck. The victim fought back for a short period of time before the defendant connected a successful stab into the left temple which inflicted severe brain injury to him. Following the initial stabbings Hector Deleon proceeded to take the escalator to a lower floor before stabbing a 36-year-old man in the neck and another 60-year-old man in the face. The defendant continued making his way through the station before stabbing a 42-year-old man in the throat during a struggle where the victim used his backpack to defend himself. Hector Deleon managed to then stab a 30-year-old man twice in his left temple as the final victim in the stabbing spree.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Hector Deleon are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
