On September 18th, 2025, the arrest of Geovalny Alcantara, age 20, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Geovalny Alcantara was charged with first-degree Attempted Assault, second-degree Attempted Murder, and second-degree Assault. The arrest and charges against Geovalny Alcantara were a result of an investigation handled by [Officers/Detectives].
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, in the early morning hours on July 14th, 2025, Geovalny Alcantara had boarded onto a West Harlem, New York, westbound subway and took a seat next to the victim. At approximately 6:06 a.m. as the train was pulling into the West 145th Street and Broadway station Geovalny Alcantara allegedly began to stab the victim several times unprovoked with a knife. The violent outburst left the victim multiple lacerations across his face and head. He was transported to a local hospital for immediate care to his wounds, requiring staples and stitches to close the open gashes in addition to a blood transfusion for the blood loss. Officers in an adjacent train car took note of the commotion and responded once the train came to a complete stop to discover the defendant also exiting onto the station. Geovalny Alcantara was observed to be wearing blood stained clothing and to have dropped the alleged knife on the station’s floor. The eyewitness that observed the defendant leaving the train led to officers locating and arresting him.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Geovalny Alcantara are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
