Roberto Grillo of Bloomfield Convicted of Sexual Assault while Serving for Murder

Roberto Grillo, 40, of Bloomfield, NJ was convicted of sexually assaulting a girl from the age of 12 to 16. He faces a sentence of up to 105 years.

The Essex County jury deliberated for less than a day before convicting Grillo on all 12 counts including six counts of endangering the welfare of a child, four counts of aggravated sexual assault, and two counts of sex assault.

Thee sexual assault began when the victim was 12 years old and continued until she was 16 years old. When Roberto Grillo learned he was wanted, he fled to Florida and tried unsuccessfully to commit suicide. He was returned to New Jersey in March, 2015 to face charges.

“The victim suffered years of torment at the hands of this defendant. She has found justice today,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor Michael Morris, who tried the sexual assault case.

Grillo was already serving 55 years for killing Yolanda Vega, a 35 year old mother of two from Rahway, NJ, in December 2015. He was convicted of first-degree muder in Union County in December 2018.
