On March 6th, 2025, the arrest of Terry Redfern, age 35, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Terry Redfern was charged with first-degree strict liability for drug-induced death, and two counts of third-degree distribution of Fentanyl. The arrest and charges against Terry Redfern are a result of an investigation launched by Chief Matthew Finck of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and Chief Michael Folingo of the Elmwood Park Police Department

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 11:04 a.m. on May 3rd, 2025, a medical emergency was reported on Route 46 in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. Responding officers found an unresponsive 42-year old male victim from Bergen County who was found lifeless by local motel management, and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted a possible drug overdose and contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force. A joint investigation revealed that the substance that the victim ingested did contain a deadly amount of fentanyl. Detectives alleged that Terry Redfern was responsible for distributing the drugs to the victim, therefore causing his death. Terry Redfern was located and arrested in Paterson, New Jersey on March 4th, 2025, and was held in the Bergen County Jail until his first court appearance.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Terry Redfern are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
