On April 16th, 2025, the arrest of Miriam Yamiri, age 32, was announced by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. Miriam Yamiri was charged with second-degree Manslaughter, second-degree Assault, criminally negligent Homicide, and other related charges. The arrest and charges against Miriam Yamiri were a result of an investigation handled by detectives from the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 1:00 p.m. on March 29th, 2025, video surveillance depicted Miriam Yamiri driving a 2023 Audi turning on to Ocean Parkway before she would run through a red light and narrowly avoid oncoming traffic approximately a block away from where the crash would happen. At the intersection of Ocean Parkway and Quentin Road 34-year old mother Natasha Saada with her three children, two daughters and one son, were crossing Ocean Parkway as a Toyota Camry turning right from Quentin Road and waiting for the family to finish crossing the street. Allegedly Miriam Yamiri sped through the intersection where Natasha Saada and her children were crossing, first ramming into the back of the stationary Toyota Camry and continuing to drive the Audi which pushed the Toyota Camry into the victims until both vehicles stopped 130 feet away. Detectives determined that Miriam Yamiri was driving at 68 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone, and the Audi was at full throttle which insinuates that the gas pedal was being floored and there was no attempt to apply any brakes. Natasha Saada and her two daughters passed away at the scene while the son had been dealt skull fractures, internal bleeding in his brain, and needed the removal of one of his kidneys. All occupants of the Toyota Camry (the Uber driver and 4 passengers, a mother and three children) suffered from minor injuries after the crash. The Audi ended up being flipped upside down and emergency responders needed to cut the car open in order to retrieve Miriam Yamiri from inside, the defendant only suffering from minor injuries.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Miriam Yamiri are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
