On September 17th, 2025, the arrest of Jarrett C. Burd, age 26, was announced by Hunterdon County Prosecutor r Renée M. Robeson. Jarrett C. Burd was charged with one count of first-degree Carjacking, one count of second-degree Eluding, one count of third-degree Possession of Weapons for Unlawful Purposes, one count of fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of Weapons, one count of fourth-degree Assault by Auto, one count of fourth-degree Aggravated Assault of Emergency Medical Services Personnel, and one count of a disorderly persons offense for Theft, . The arrest and charges against Jarrett C. Burd were a result of an investigation handled by the Raritan Town Police Department and the New Jersey State Police.
According to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, a motor vehicle carjacking was reported at approximately 3:22 p.m. on September 15th, 2025, at the Citgo Gas Station on Frenchtown Road in Milford Borough. Responding officers from the New Jersey State Police located a victim reporting that his 2022 grey Toyota 4runner was stolen while he was threatened at knifepoint and demanded to surrender the vehicle. The stolen vehicle was located driving recklessly in Frenchtown Borough traveling southbound towards Kingwood Township. A motor vehicle chase was ensued by multiple police vehicles and the stolen Toyota 4runner on County Route 579 in Raritan Township. At approximately 4:26 p.m. the stolen Toyota 4runner crashed into another vehicle on County Route 523. Both drivers involved in the motor vehicle accident were taken to the Hunterdon Medical Center for treatment to minor injuries, where police were able to identify Jarrett C. Burd as the driver of the stolen Toyota 4runner.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Jarrett C. Burd are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
