On August 1st, 2025, the arrest of Scott M. Hopkins, age 55, was announced by Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson. Scott M. Hopkins was charged with first-degree Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, three counts of second-degree Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of CDS Offenses, one count of second-degree Possession With the Intent to Distribute Cocaine, one count of third-degree Possession With Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, one count of third-degree Certain Persons not to have Firearms, one count of third-degree Possession of Materials to Create an Explosive Device, one count of third-degree Possession of Hollow Point Rounds, and three counts of fourth-degree Possession of CDS Paraphernalia. The arrest and charges against Scott M. Hopkins were a result of an investigation handled by Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Narcotics Task Force, the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) Strategic Investigations Unit – Central, and NJSP Kingwood Station.
According to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, Scott M. Hopkins was in his vehicle while police executed a motor vehicle stop on June 14th, 2025. Officers determined that Scott M. Hopkins was in possession of cocaine on his body during the stop. Due to this outcome, a court-authorized search warrant was issued for Scott M. Hopkins’ vehicle and residence. The search of the defendant’s vehicle uncovered methamphetamine, 12-gauge shotgun shells, and one Smith and Wesson handgun containing a twelve-round magazine. The search of Scott M. Hopkins’ residence led to the seizure of additional amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine, counterfeit fentanyl pills, a loaded FNH handgun, a loaded JC Higgins 22 caliber rifle, a loaded Savage Arms Model 4622 short-long rifle, assorted ammunition, including hollow point rounds, drug paraphernalia including a digital scale, grinder plastic bags, and capsules used for drug packaging. Scott M. Hopkins has an active final restraining order against him, as well as being prohibited from owning any firearms.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Scott M. Hopkins are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
