On October 8th, 2025, the arrest of Wei Sheng Chen, age 27, was announced by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. Wei Sheng Chen was charged with first-degree Murder, two counts of first-degree Assault, two counts of second-degree Murder, second-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Arson, and two counts of fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The arrest and charges against Wei Sheng Chen were a result of an investigation handled by Detective Brian Porzelt of the NYPD’s 109th Detective Squad

According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, Wei Sheng Chen lived in a residence on Smart Street in Flushing, New York, along with his wife and her mother and brother. On October 2nd between 3:50 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Wei Sheng Chen allegedly used a knife to stab his mother-in-law, Qui Lin Shi, several times in the torso and arms, and his 17-year-old brother-in-law in the face, chest, back, and head. Wei Sheng Chen then allegedly started three alcohol induced fires on the first floor of the house. Qui Li Shi and the defendant’s brother-in-law were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. Qui Li Shi was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, and the brother-in-law required over 100 staples and stitches for injuries on his head, neck, chest, abdomen, back, eyelids, and cheeks. Detectives later investigating were able to recover two knives from the scene.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Wei Sheng Chen are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
