Story by Ethan

On July 24th, 2025, the arrest of Gavin Ferguson, age 30, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Gavin Ferguson was charged with first-degree Assault, first-degree Attempted Assault, second-degree Attempted Murder, and second-degree Assault. The arrest and charges against Gavin Ferguson were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD Transit Division Police Officer Michael Auriemmo, Detective John Williams, Detective Frank Danoy, Police Officer Jonathan Paga-Colon and members of Transit Division 4

According to the Attorney General’s Office, on June 18th, 2025, Gavin Ferguson and both victims were aboard a southbound 5 train. At approximately 7:10 a.m. the train stopped at Grand Central Station before Gavin Ferguson attempted to exit the train when he passed by one of the victims who stepped aside to give the defendant room to walk out. Allegedly Gavin Ferguson punched the victim in the face unprovoked before getting into a physical altercation with him. During the struggle the defendant allegedly took out a knife and stabbed the first victim several times in the chest and torso area. Another victim attempted to intervene and break up the fight which gave the first victim an opportunity to flee from the train car, however Gavin Ferguson allegedly caught up with the second victim and stabbed him in the torso and buttocks. Once stab punctured the victim’s bowels and required emergency surgery and several days of hospitalization to recover from. Allegedly Gavin Ferguson fled from the station before being arrested at his workplace a few hours later. Officers were able to recover a knife and noted the defendant allegedly changed out of his clothes from the time of the stabbing and discarded them elsewhere.

The Attorney General’s Office stated that the charges against Gavin Ferguson are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
