On February 3rd, 2026, the arrest of Jeffery Lawrence, age 34, was announced by Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport. Jeffery Lawrence was charged with two counts of second-degree Theft by Unlawful Taking and two counts of second-degree Misconduct by a Corporate Official. The arrest and charges against Jeffery Lawrence were a result of an investigation handled by Detective Stephen Kircher and Special Investigators Sean McCarthy and Stephen Minikel of the Division of Criminal Justice, and federal agents from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Jeffery Lawrence was previously the vice president, treasurer, and corporate security of a manufacturing company he previously worked at. It’s alleged that the defendant used his position to embezzle over $1 million from his former company, using several other transactions from January to March 2022 to transfer the stolen funds to a second company. This second company was founded and controlled by Jeffery Lawrence with the purpose of starting a competitor to his former company. Allegedly the defendant had fabricated numerous corporate statements and records, such as for nonexistent purchases and investments, in an attempt to disguise the transferred funds as legitimate business.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that the charges against Jeffery Lawrence are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
