On March 30th, 2026, the arrest of Bairon Hernandez, age 34, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Bairon Hernandez was charged with first-degree Attempted Assault, second-degree Murder, and second-degree Assault. The arrest and charges against Bairon Hernandez were a result of an investigation handled by Detective Ryan Specht of the NYPD Detective Bureau.
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 11:39 a.m. on March 8th, 2026, both victims were standing on the F/Q subway platform at the 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue subway station when Bairon Hernandez also entered the station. The defendant walked behind a 30-year-old man and allegedly used his body to shove him onto the subway tracks, causing the victim to fall on his knees and sustain a shoulder injury. Bairon Hernandez then walked past 83-year-old Richard Williams with his cane and allegedly used both hands to shove the victim off the platform onto the subway tracks. Richard Williams landed on his face and suffered bleeding in his brain that led to a loss of consciousness, later leading to his death on March 17th, 2026.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Bairon Hernandez are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
