On April 1st, 2026, the arrest of Kevin Richmond, age 44, was announced by New York Attorney General Letita James. Kevin Richmond was charged with second-degree Vehicular Manslaughter and two counts of Driving While Intoxicated as a misdemeanor. The arrest and charges against Kevin Richmond were a result of an investigation handled by New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigations.
According to the New York Attorney General’s Office, shortly after midnight on July 27th, 2023, Kevin Richmond was driving northbound in his vehicle on I-87 to Cornwall, New York, when he allegedly collided with Nidia Nieves who was riding her motorcycle. The collision flung Nidia Nieves from her motorcycle and caused severe traumatic injuries, later leading to her being pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. It’s alleged that at the time of the crash Kevin Richmond was off-duty and allegedly intoxicated, driving his personal vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of at least 0.08%. The defendant was arrested on June 17th, 2025, following the charges placed against him by Judge Paul Trachte at Newburg City Court.
The New York Attorney General’s Office stated that the charges against Kevin Richmond are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
