Story by Ethan

On January 14th, 2026, the arrest of Lawrence Destefano, was announced by New York Attorney General Letita James. Lawrence Destefano was charged with two counts of first-degree Criminal Sale of a Firearm, second-degree Criminal Sale of a Frame or Receiver, 39 counts of third-degree Criminal Sale of a Firearm, fourth-degree Conspiracy, and 28 counts of Transport of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances. The arrest and charges against Lawrence Destefano were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD Detective Christopher DeGiorgio of the LaGuardia Airport Task Force, NYPD Sergeant Michael Becker, Lieutenant Mark Jablonski, Captain Matt Gorman, under the overall supervision of Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, USPIS, HSI, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Office of State Attorney Monique H. Worrell, Ninth Judicial Circuit, and the Florida Highway Patrol’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence

According to the New York Attorney General’s Office, Lawrence Destefano allegedly owned an Indie Guns website which he used to market and ship out gun components, complete serialized firearms, high-capacity magazines, and various ammunition. Through the website Lawrence Destefano instructed customers to move further communication to encrypted messaging apps, such as Telegram Messenger, to avoid online detection when discussing orders and payments. Lawrence Destefano would request payments in cash, money orders, and digital payments that avoided detection through record keeping. Allegedly the defendant would ship firearm components and accessories separately while being able to hide the true nature of the deliveries.

From January to May in 2025, Lawrence Destefano unknowingly interacted with an undercover officer and allegedly sold him 12 serialized firearms, one ghost gun kit, several high-capacity magazines, and over 1,300 rounds of ammunition. Two packages that the defendant had shipped to New York were intercepted by USPIS, one addressed to Nassau County and the other addressed to Brooklyn. The Nassau County package contained a complete ghost gun kit, and the Brooklyn package was holding 100 rounds of ammunition and a single high-capacity magazine.

The New York Attorney General’s Office stated that the charges against Lawrence Destefano are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
