On April 23rd, 2026, the arrest of Eliud Garcia, age 50, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Eliud Garcia was charged with first-degree Stalking, first-degree Burglary, second-degree Murder, second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, second-degree Aggravated Harassment, and third-degree Assault. The arrest and charges against Eliud Garcia were a result of an investigation handled by members of the NYPD including Detective Cristian Balbi of the 32nd Precinct Detective Squad, Sergeant Isaias Martinez of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad, Detective Christopher O’Connor of the Warrants Squad, Officer Kassialeida Barrett of the 32nd Precinct Detective Squad, Detective Heriberto Vasquez, Detective Michael Tedeschi of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad, Detective Ariel Eusebio, the Manhattan North Shooting Enhancement Team, Detective Joseph Spina of the FBI Task Force, the Warrants Squad, and Sergeant Charles Cavallaro and Detective Ahsan Zafar of the 41st Precinct Field Intelligence Office.
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, on October 27th, 2025, Eliud Garcia was refused sex by his wife, Basilisa Negron, which led to the defendant punching and kicking her repeatedly. After the physical altercation Eliud Garcia threatened to hurt her further and hurt her children if she were to be with anyone else. This led to Basilisa Negron ending the relationship and kicking the defendant out of her apartment after suffering a swollen bruised arm and bruising around her eye. Over the following two months Eliud Garcia continued to call Basilisa Negron even after his number had been blocked, in addition to gaining access to her social media and showing up at her apartment despite him having moved to the Bronx, New York. At approximately 11:00 a.m. on December 23rd, 2025, Eliud Garcia left his parents’ apartment in the Bronx to walk to Basilisa Negron’s apartment in Harlem before pacing around the area for about 30 minutes. At this time Basilisa Negron was at home alone getting ready for work while her daughter had left to get food from the deli across the street. Eliud Garcia observed the victim’s daughter crossing the street to the deli before walking down the block and entering Basilisa Nergon’s building when another resident was exiting. Eliud Garcia allegedly entered Badilisa Negron’s apartment and shot her six times at close range in her torso, arms, legs, and forehead. The defendant immediately fled from the building through a side entrance and was able to evade law enforcement until he was located and arrested on March 25th, 2026.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Eliud Garcia are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
