On April 22nd, 2026, the arrest of Juan Acevedo, age 30, and Jeison Figueroa Nomesqui, age 33, was announced by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. Juan Acevedo was charged with second and third-degree Burglary, second-degree Escape, second and third-degree Grand Larceny, third-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, and fourth-degree Criminal Mischief. Jeison Figueroa Nomesqui was charged with second-degree Burglary, second-degree Grand Larceny, third-degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Failing to Make a Lawful U-Turn, Operating a Vehicle at Unreasonable Speeds, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License. The arrest and charges against Juan Acevedo and Jeison Figueroa Nomesqui were a result of an investigation handled by Detective Matthew Makely of the Queens North Burglary Task Force and Sergeant Thomas Lamneck of the New York Police Department

According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, on March 5th, 2025, both defendants alongside two other unapprehended individuals rented a Porsche and drove to three separate residences with it. At approximately 11:45 a.m. that day Juan Acevedo allegedly broke into a residence on Springfield Boulevard in Bayside, New York. While unlawfully in the property the group allegedly stole approximately $9,800 in cash and designer handbags. After the incident was reported and officers arrived at the scene, a winter hat was recovered with DNA matching Juan Acevedo. Later the same day at approximately 3:51 p.m. it’s alleged that Juan Acevedo hopped a fence in trespass to then break into a home on 219th Street in Queens Village, New York. This second alleged theft led to approximately $30,200 worth of goods being stolen, including designer handbags, jewelry, and cash. That evening at approximately 5:40 p.m. the group allegedly broke into another residence on Bolsen Crescent in Rego Park, New York, and stole approximately $1,500 worth of jewelry. The Porsche that the defendants’ rented had a GPS tracker installed that uncovered the vehicle and defendants’ whereabouts during the times of the burglaries. After an investigation into the crimes Juan Acevedo was located and apprehended on December 5th, 2025, then initially facing burglary and grand theft charges.

On February 25th, 2026, Juan Acevedo was fitted with an ankle monitor following his indictment, and further investigation revealed that he was allegedly involved in other burglaries between December 2025 and February 2026. At approximately 6:40 p.m. on December 29th, 2025, two other unknown individuals alongside Juan Acevedo stole approximately $20,000 in jewelry from a home on 166th Street in East Flushing, New York. The stolen jewelry was sold at an exchange in Manhattan the next day. At approximately 7:48 p.m. on February 16th, 2026, the same trio broke into a residence on 229th Street in Oakland Gardens, New York. The group used a collapsible ladder to get into the home and steal approximately $100,000 in cash and jewelry. Jeison Figueroa Nomesqui was allegedly also present in the area acting as the crew’s getaway driver. Juan Acevedo was arraigned on further criminal charges on March 6th, 2026, from the December 25th, 2025, and February 16th, 2026 incidents.

On March 7th, 2026, following the investigation into the February 16th, 2026 burglary, on-duty officers attempted to pull over Jeison Figueroa Nomesqui at the intersection of 107th Avenue and Cross Bay Boulevard. The defendant performed an illegal U-turn and sped while swerving in between lanes without signaling in order to evade the officers. Officers eventually caught up to Jeison Figueroa Nomesqui’s vehicle and apprehended him at the scene, charging him for the February 16th, 2026 burglary incident in addition to all infractions caused during the pursuit. Jeison Figueroa Nomesqui was granted supervised release until his court return date on April 22nd, 2026.

On March 9th, 2025, after Juan Acevedo was released with electronic monitoring two days prior, law enforcement received notification about the defendant’s ankle monitor being cut off in the area of the Grand Central Parkway. NYPD officers were dispatched to the area Juan Acevedo was last tracked at to only find the cut off ankle monitor while being unsuccessful with locating the defendant. A bench warrant was issued against Juan Acevedo following him going missing. After a month-long joint investigation both Juan Acevedo and Jeison Figueroa Nomesqui were located and apprehended on April 1st, 2026, at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City. Juan Acevedo presented airport security a forged Colombian passport in an attempt to board a flight to Bogota, Colombia

The Queens District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Juan Acevedo and Figueroa Nomesqui are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
