Zachary Verrastro of Asbury, New Jersey, Charged with Carjacking for Stealing Vehicle and Injuring Owner

On March 9th, 2026, the arrest of Zachary Verrastro, age 36, was announced by Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson. Zachary Verrastro was charged with first-degree Carjacking, second-degree Aggravated Assault, two counts of third-degree Criminal Mischief, fourth-degree Assault by Auto, and disorderly persons Criminal Mischief. The arrest and charges against Zachary Verrastro were a result of an investigation handled by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office

According to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, on March 9th, 2026, the victim was driving in his Jeep Gladiator before parking it directly next to a United States Post Office building on Capner Street in Flemington Borough, New Jersey. The victim exited his vehicle while leaving it running with the keys in the ignition before going to enter the building to conduct business. While the victim was inside the post office building when he saw Zachary Verrastro enter his vehicle and begin to drive away, and the victim subsequently chased after him. Both individuals engaged in a confrontation where the victim sustained multiple injuries as he was dragged by both the vehicle and the defendant’s fists while he was attempting to flee the scene. As he drove away Zachary Verrastro damaged two other vehicles, one parked car and another car that was being driven by its occupant. The defendant was intercepted and detained by Detective Dean Cerdeira of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office in front of the Hunterdon County’s Justice Center

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Zachary Verrastro are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
