Boerum Hill Drug Dealer Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison for Fatally Shooting Man during Fistfight, Wounding another

Eric Gonzalez, the acting DA of Brooklyn made a public announcement regarding a case that involves the sentencing of a gang member who shot dead an unarmed man while leaving another one wounded during a fistfight in 2009 which erupted as a result of some kind of marijuana sales dispute. The gang member has been sentenced to 35 prison years.

The acting DA told that the defendant was indulged in an illegal fistfight where he brought a gun and killed an unarmed man who tried saving himself by crawling away. He also added that the sentence is meant to protect the general public from a dangerous person who decided to make use of a lethal weapon just to settle mere a dispute.

The defendant was identified by the acting DA as 29 years old Anthony Reyes who was the resident of Boreum Hill in Brooklyn. Suzanne Mondo, the Supreme Court Justice of Brooklyn sentenced him to 35 prison years on 3rd February,2017 on account of manslaughter (first degree), attempted assault (first, second degrees) and criminal weapon possession (second degree).

As elaborated by the acting DA, the defendant revealed in his testimony that he was involved in a fistfight in Bushwick, Brooklyn. He shot dead a 24 years old man Allen Wilson Jr. in multiple attempts. The first fire missed him but he kept on firing till the victim who was trying to save himself by crawling away got killed. After killing this person, the defendant shot again. This time he wounded 23 years old Darryl Rembert.

The fistfight is told to be erupted as a result of a sales dispute between the defendant’s brother and 2 teenage boys who were involved in selling marijuana on the behalf of the defendant. The defendant was on his way to the courtyard when he received a call about the ongoing dispute. So he decided to show up with a gun.

After committing to the crime, the defendant fled the country and got into the Dominican Republic. A few years later in 2014, he got arrested while trying to get into the US. Then he confessed to killing and told the authorities about his involvement with the gang and the drug trade.

The prosecutors involved in this case include the ADA Patrick O’Connor and the ADA Katie Lee Wright. Both of these ADAs work for the DA’s violent criminal enterprises bureau.
