The arrest and charges against Bikem Fiseku were a result of an investigation handled by the FBI, NYPD, and U.S. Marshalls.
According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 11:00 p.m. on October 22nd, 2024, officers were dispatched in response to a 911 call reporting an in-progress burglary with a suspicious dark pickup truck. Responding NYPD officers allegedly saw Bekim Fiseku 2023 Dodge Ram pulling off the sidewalk in the area of 38-27 Crescent Street in Long Island City, New York. When they attempted to perform a routine motor vehicle stop on the vehicle, Bekim Fiseku sped up to flee which ensued a police chase. After about 10 minutes into the chase Bekim Fiseku allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of 34th Avenue and 37th Street in Astoria, New York. At this time Amanda Servedio was crossing the street at the aforementioned intersection while riding on her bicycle with the right of way. After Bekim Fiseku allegedly struck Amanda Servedio, she was flung off her bike onto a parked vehicle. The police chase ended as the officers stopped to render aid to Amanda Servedio while Bekim Fiseku continued to flee, however the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital. Bekim Fiseku allegedly drove approximately half a mile further away from the crash scene before exiting the vehicle and continuing his escape on foot through various backyards. Police later were able to recover a prybar, screwdriver, box cutters, dead-blow hammer, gloves, mask, and two cellphones from inside the abandoned Dodge Ram. One of the phones that police recovered was registered under Bekim Fiseku’s name. Further investigation at the burglary site, where officers first encountered the defendant, revealed forced entry and evidence supporting that both Bekim Fiseku and a second unknown individual attempted to break into the building.
The Queens District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Bekim Fiseku are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
