Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office is Accepting Applications For Summer High School Internships

Eric Gonzalez made a joint public statement with Michael Mulgrew, the president of the United Federation of Teachers earlier today. They basically announced an opportunity for high school going students residing in borough, offering them a five week summer internship program. The program is best suited for students that are interested in public service or criminal justice.

Gonzalez told the public that he and the UFT President are really excited about hosting the internship program as it offers the students a chance to directly work with ADAs and secure highly prized real life experiences. The participants would be able to take a closer look at the country’s criminal justice system along with a chance to get mentored by the people running the system.
He also added that the DA’s office is proud to be a partner of the UFT for providing the students of Brooklyn with this amazing opportunity.

President Mulgrew also expressed his stance by saying that internships have the ability to make an actual different in the lives of students as they provide them with an actual experience of the workplace that they may one day be a part of. He also said that the students may then choose to make a career out of the very same field due to this kind of experience.

Some of the internees are supposed to be assigned to different units under the jurisdiction of the DA’s office so that they might be able to help out the ADA’s along with the rest of the staff members in carrying out their responsibilities. They may expect carrying out legal research & analysis by making use of legal periodicals, news articles and the internet. Other areas of work involve assisting the attorneys on different pretrial matters, working on preparation of cases, participation in law enforcement, legal and judicial field trips and observing different criminal proceedings like sentencings, guilty pleas and trials.

Seniors, juniors and sophomores are eligible to apply for the internship that is supposed to commence from July 10th to August 11th this year. The daily schedule for the internship is Monday to Thursday, 9 am through 4 pm and from 9 am to 12:30 pm on Friday.

The internees will also be paid a weekly stipend of 150 USD. The applicants need to provide their school transcripts along with a single page resume, two recommendation letters and evaluation forms filled by a mentor, coach or a teacher. In addition to these, the applicant is also supposed to provide a 300 words essay stating the reason behind their interest in securing the spot at the Brooklyn’s DA Office and how may it help them in pursuing their future endeavors.
