The arrest and charges against Darnell Ingram were a result of an investigation handled by the South Brunswick Police Department and Detective James Alleva of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office

According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 2:04 a.m. on April 19th, 2026, a collision on Route 1 north at the intersection of Ridge Road was responded to by officers from the South Brunswick Police Department. Arriving officers located the crash involving three vehicles. A 31-year-old female from Jersey City, New Jersey, was operating a 2025 Toyota Camry before she was rammed from behind by a 2012 Lexus SUV being driven by 53-year-old Leonid Tubert of Chester, Pennsylvania. Both the driver and passenger of the Toyota Camry exited their vehicle to talk to Leonid Tubert who also exited his vehicle to assess the damages. As both parties were exchanging information a 2016 Lexus Sedan operated by Darnell Ingram struck the rear end of the Lexus SUV which pinned Leonid Tubert between the vehicles. Leonid Tubert was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University in critical condition, but was pronounced deceased shortly after by succumbing to his injuries. The occupants of the Toyota Camry and Darnell Ingram were also transported to the same hospital where both the driver of the Toyota Camry and the defendant were treated for minor injuries.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Darnell Ingram are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
