On February 11th, 2026, the arrest of Florin Stoian (alleged to truly be Slaco Razmias), age 25, was announced by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. Florin Stoian was charged with second-degree Manslaughter, second-degree Assault, second, third, and fourth-degree Arson, second and fourth-degree Criminal Mischief, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminally Negligent Homicide, Leaving the Scene of a Collision, and Reckless Driving. The arrest and charges against Florin Stoian were a result of an investigation handled by the New York City Police Department’s Collision Investigations Squad and the District Attorney’s Vehicular Homicide Unit and Extraditions Unit.
According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 7:40 p.m. on August 14th, 2022, Florin Stoian was driving eastbound on Myrtle Avenue in a BMW X6 Sedan sporting a Florida license plate that he rented out. The defendant was traveling at a high rate of speed above the posted speed limit when he crossed over the road’s double yellow line in an attempt to overtake traffic in front of him. Several vehicles traveling in the westbound lane were forced to abruptly swerve out of the way in order to avoid the BMW operated by Florin Stoian. After traveling for a bit the defendant allegedly hit a pedestrian, 74-year-old Be Tran, who was attempting to cross Myrtle Avenue onto Hancock Street. The collision flung Be Tran onto the pavement, and was pronounced deceased at 7:52 p.m. on the scene by first responders.
After allegedly fleeing the scene Florin Stoian parked the rented vehicle approximately a little under a mile away next to a fire hydrant on 62nd Street before exiting and walking away. Early the next morning at approximately 3:20 a.m. an explosion was heard by several individuals inside their residences. It was reported that after the explosion multiple people observed the aforementioned vehicle ablaze in a spontaneous vehicle fire that spread to nearby overhead wiring, two other parked vehicles, the sidewalk, and the exterior of three properties closeby. Nearby surveillance footage depicted Florin Stoian running away from the scene, and the fire subsequently destroyed the rented BMW’s crash data recorder. Investigation into the fire led detectives to claim the fire was deliberate and incendiary. After extensive work the defendant was identified as Irish national Slaco Razmias once he was located under other unrelated pretenses in Germany.
The Queens District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Florin Stoian are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
