On November 14th, 2025, the arrest of Jemair Austin, age 18, was announced by Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey. Jemair Austin was charged with first-degree Murder, second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The arrest and charges against Jemair Austin were a result of an investigation handled by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police Department.
According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 10:01 p.m. on October 31st, 2025, the same disturbance was reported through several 911 calls in the area ofEast Hanover Street in Trenton, New Jersey. The reports described a physical altercation incident within a group of young men, including stabbing and shooting. Responding patrol officers located the 17-year-old victim, later identified as Gussiah McEachern, lying in the street with a stab wound to his throat. Gussiah McEachern was swiftly transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center to be treated, however he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased in the hospital. Detectives later identified Jemair Austin as the suspect allegedly responsible for stabbing Gussiah McEachern, however the investigation is still ongoing.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Jemair Austin are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
