On July 24th, 2025, the arrest of Jeremiah L. Rivera, age 19, and Sha’zeik Davis, age 20, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Jeremiah L. Rivera was charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, second-degree providing false information to law enforcement, third-degree aggravated assault by attempting to cause bodily harm, and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm. Sha’zeik Davis was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, third-degree aggravated assault by attempting to cause bodily harm, and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm. The arrest and charges against Jeremiah L. Rivera and Sha’zeik Davis were a result of an investigation launched by Chief Matthew Finck of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Chief Jason Cosgriff of the Saddle River Police Department.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, officers from the Saddle River Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office reported shots being fired at Chestnut Ridge Road in Saddle River, New Jersey. Ballistic evidence was uncovered that led detectives to believe the shooting took place between two groups of men. Detectives also allege that there were two vehicles, both with several men inside of them, that had arrived in front of the residence on Chestnut Ridge Road before a verbal argument with the property’s resident. The resident then pulled out a handgun and fired a shot in the direction of the stationary vehicle outside the house, promptly speeding away after. After some time had passed, the men returned to the property with the second vehicle, also occupied by several men, and continued the altercation. Detectives identified Jeremiah L. Rivera to be the resident of the property on Chestnut Ridge Road, as well as being accompanied by Sha’zeik Davis who allegedly fired nine shots in the second dispute with his own handgun. One of the bullets that Sha’zeik Davis allegedly fired hit one of the vehicles that the group of men had brought. No injuries were uncovered or reported, and detectives claim that Jeremiah L. Rivera had given them false or misleading information. Jeremiah L. Rivera was located and arrested on July 16th, 2025, and Sha’zeik Davis was apprehended on July 24th, 2025, in Mahwah, New Jersey by the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and the Mahwah Police Department.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Jeremiah L. Rivera and Sha’zeik Davis are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
