On September 23rd, 2025, the arrest of Joel Galvis, age 40, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Joel Galvis was charged with two counts of second-degree Possession of a Firearm, one count of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess a Firearm, one count of fourth-degree Possession of a Defaced Firearm, and one count of fourth-degree Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine. The arrest and charges against Joel Galvis were a result of an investigation handled by Chief Matthew Finck of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Chief Thomas Greely of the Edgewater Police Department.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 6:27a.m. on September 19th, 2025, Joel Galvis was transported to the Englewood Hospital with a gunshot wound, the hospital then notifying the Englewood Police Department of the injury. Officers located Joel Galvis at the hospital and learnt that the wound was self-inflicted. A court-authorized search of Joel Galvis’ vehicle nearby the hospital uncovered two firearms with high-capacity ammunition magazines. Officers noted that one of the two found firearms had their serial number defaced entirely.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Joel Galvis are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
