Mayer Herskovic, 24, of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Found Guilty of Gang Assault

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson today declared that a 24-year-old man from Williamsburg Brooklyn was found guilty of gang violence and other charges in his role in the severe beating of Tal Patterson who was innocently walking down the street when he was attacked by 12 people.

District Attorney Thompson said ” Today’s conviction is evidence to our resolve to make sure that this case based on the evidence is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I hope this will bring some peace of mind and well-being to Mr Patterson and his family.”

The District Attorney named the accused as Mayer Herskovic 24 of Williamsburg Brooklyn. He was found guilty of second-degree gang assault. First-degree unlawful imprisonment and menacing after a bench trial before Brooklyn Supreme Justice Danny Chun. The accused faces a jail term of 15 years if he is found guilty.

The District Attorney said that the testimony reported that on December 1, 2013, at approximately 4:40 am that Taj Patterson was walking down Flushing Avenue in Williamsburg when a man approached him and was later joined other men who proceeded to chase him. Patterson ran away but the gang which consisted of 15 – 20 men caught him on the corner of Flushing Avenue and Spencer Street.

The injured person Patterson was punched, kicked and stood upon. His face was badly fractured, retinal damage and lost sight in his right eye.

Gathering the evidence it was found that a worn sneaker belonging to the injured was found on the roof of a neighboring building. The DNA of the accused was found on the sneaker.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Timothy Gough, Bureau Chief of the District Attorney’s Trial Bureau III, Grey Zone, and Assistant District Attorney Tyear Middleton, also of the Grey Zone.
