On March 25th, 2026, the arrest of Megan Horne, age 34, was announced by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. Megan Horne was charged with second-degree Aggravated Harassments, third-degree Assault as a Hate Crime, third-degree Assault, third-degree Attempted Assault as a Hate Crime, third-degree Attempted Assault, third-degree Menacing as a Hate Crime, third-degree Menacing, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest and charges against Megan Horne were a result of an investigation handled by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 2:55 p.m. on January 30th, 2026, Megan Horne approached a 33-year-old woman wearing a hijab in the area of Fifth Avenue and 89th Street in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The defendant allegedly spewed anti-muslim rhetoric at the victim while punching and kicking her. Approximately twelve minutes later near 92nd Street and Gelston Avenue in Bay Ridge, New York, approached a 12-year-old girl wearing a hijab, and allegedly punched her in the face. Shortly after the defendant moved towards 92nd Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway Megan Horne allegedly approached a 36-year-old woman wearing a hijab and shoved her as she was attempting to board a bus. The defendant allegedly make more anti-muslim comments towards the victim after the alleged assault. None of the victims accepted immediate medical attention, however they were still injured and feared for their safety following the incidents.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Megan Horne are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
