According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 12:16 a.m. on April 14th, 2025, Nelson Torres was standing in line for a food truck near the intersection of Junction Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue in Corona, New York. At the same time the victim, 22-year-old Anderson David Archilla Martinez, was biking down the street the defendant was standing at when he accidentally brushed against Nelson Torres’ bag. The contact between the two escalated to a verbal altercation before Anderson David Archilla Martinez attempted to pedal away. Allegedly Nelson Torres shoved the victim off of his bike while he brandished a knife in order to steal the bike and ride away. The victim managed to catch up with the defendant while on the phone with 911 at the northeast corner of the intersection where he managed to knock Nelson Torres to the ground. After being knocked off the bike the defendant allegedly thrust the knife he was holding in Anderson David Archilla Martinez’ direction, managing to plunge it into his abdomen. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, however shortly after arriving he was pronounced as dead.
The Queens District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Nelson Torres are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
