On August 1st, 2025, the arrest of Scott M. Hopkins, age 55, was announced by Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson. Scott M. Hopkins was charged with first-degree Possession of Methamphetamine With Intent to Distribute, three counts of second-degree Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substance) Offenses, one count of third-degree Possession With Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, one count of third-degree Being a Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon, one count of third-degree Possession of Materials to Create an Explosive Device, one count of third-degree Possession of Hollow Point Rounds, and three counts of fourth-degree Possession of CDS Paraphinelia. The arrest and charges against Scott M. Hopkins were a result of an investigation handled by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Narcotics Task Force, the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) Strategic Investigations Unit – Central, and NJSP Kingwood Station.
According to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, a routine motor vehicle stop was performed on Scott M. Hopkins’ vehicle on July 14th, 2025. Officers conducting the stop suspected that Scott M. Hopkins had cocaine on his persons, which led to court-authorized search warrants being issued for the defendant’s residence, vehicle, and person. From the search of Scott M. Hopkins’ vehicle officers seized an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, a Ruff Ryders bag containing 12-gauge shotgun shells, and one Smith and Wesson handgun containing a 12-round magazine. The search of Scott M. Hopkins’ residence recovered more methamphetamine, cocaine, counterfeit fentanyl pills, a loaded FNH Handgun, a loaded JC Higgins 22 caliber rifle, a loaded Savage Arms Model 4622 short-long rifle, assorted ammunition including hollow point rounds, drug paraphernalia including a digital scale, grinder, and plastic baggies/capsules used for drug packaging.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Scott M. Hopkins are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
