On July 30th, 2025, the arrest of Wilfred Cruz, age 49, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Wilfred Cruz was charged with eight counts of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 31 counts of third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and fourth-degree Criminal Mischief. The arrest and charges against Wilfred Cruz were a result of an investigation handled by Detectives Helin Marte, Billy Dunn, Tyesha McCloud, and Ivonne Ramirez from the NYPD’s 23rd Precinct.
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, on June 14th 2025, Wilfred Cruz had gotten into an argument with the victim, his ex-girlfriend and the mother of their child, and her new boyfriend outside of a store that the boyfriend owns in East Harlem, New York. After the altercation Wilfred Cruz drove back to his home in order to change outfits. The defendant then allegedly traveled back to the aforementioned storefront where the argument was earlier and fired four shots that shattered the front window. A court-authorized search warrant was executed by police at Wilfred Cruz’ home and in his car on June 28th, 2025. Items recovered included three operable firearms, over 200 rounds of ammunition, and two dozen other weapons including knives, a switchblade, axes, swords, machetes, and a baton.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Wilfred Cruz are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
