On April 25th, 2025, the arrest of Wing Fung Chau of Queens, New York, age 53, was announced by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. Wing Fung Chau was charged with two counts of first-degree Grand Larceny, and three counts of first-degree Falsifying Business Records. The arrest and charges against Wing Fung Chau were a result of an investigation handled by KCDA Detective Investigators.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, Wing Fung Chau is one of the shareholders of 37-19 Realty Inc., which owns 25% interest in an area of land in Sunset Park at 6208 8th Avenue. It is noted that another 56-year old female shareholder, the president of the corporation, along with Wing Fung Chau were entitled to a combined 36% of the income. Allegedly on September 28th, 2021, Wing Fung Chau signed a memorandum of contract in order to sell 37-19 Reality Inc. to an interested 56-year old female buyer. The contract was filed with the City Register, leading to negotiations between Wing Fung Chau and a 53-year old man to sell 37-19 Realty Inc. interest in the Sunset Park property for $7.2 million in cash and assuming the existing mortgage obligations. Before closing the deal the buyer required proof from Wing Fung Chau that the president of 37-19 Realty Inc. had no more interest in purchasing the Sunset Park property and didn’t own any contract to do so. The buyer also required the accountant from 37-19 Realty Inc. provide the corporation’s tax fillings. The closing officially took place on November 18th, 2021, where Wing Fung Chau was the only representative for 37-19 Realty Inc. present. Wing Fung Chau allegedly presented forged documentation with fake signatures of the president’s name on papers falsely claiming there was the termination of the contract set for buying the land at Sunset Park, and other documents claiming no taxes were filed in 2019 and 2020. The proceeds from the sale were then allegedly moved into bank accounts that only Wing Fung Chau had control over, none of the money going to the president of the corporation.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Wing Fung Chau are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
