Yitzchok Sklar and Miriam Elkayam of East Flatbush, New York, Charged with Manslaughter for Exposing Four Year Old Son to Drugs

On March 20th, 2026, the arrest of Yitzchok Sklar, age 33, and Miriam Elkayam, age 37, was announced by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. Yitzchok Sklar and Miriam Elkayam were charged with second-degree Manslaughter, second-degree Assault, seventh-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Negligent Homicide, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest and charges against Yitzchok Sklar and Miriam Elkayam were a result of an investigation handled by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office

According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, on March 4th, 2025, a 911 call was made at a shelter located on Glenwood Road in East Flatbush, New York, reporting an unresponsive 4-year-old boy. Police and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and administered Narcan to the victim, which is a drug overdose reversal agent, before transporting him to a local hospital. The child was pronounced dead an unspecified amount of time later, the cause of death later identified by a toxicology report as exposure to fentanyl. Following an investigation suspected fentanyl, other unidentified narcotics, and drug paraphernalia were discovered inside of the defendants’ residence. 


The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Yitzchok Sklar and Miriam Elkayam are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
