JAMAL ROBINSON OF TEANECK ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY AND ATTEMPTED MURDER

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. GREWAL announced the arrest of 40-year-old JAMAL “MALLY” ROBINSON of 3 Sandburg Court, Teaneck, New Jersey (DOB: 3/18/1976), on the following charges: two counts of Attempted Murder; one count of Armed Robbery; two counts of Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose; two counts of Possession of a Weapon; and two counts of Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

The arrest came about as the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Officer in Charge, Deputy Chief of Detectives Robert ANZILOTTI, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department under the
direction of Sheriff Michael SAUDINO, the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Lawrence SUFFERN, and the Teaneck Police Department under the direction of Robert A. CARNEY.

The investigation began as a result of two shootings that took place on July 5 and July 7, 2016 in Englewood, NJ, which the investigation revealed were committed by an actor with the same physical description as ROBINSON. Both victims survived the shootings.

On July 5, 2016, at approximately 3:53 a.m., a male victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the lower leg as he exited a residence on Howland Avenue in Englewood, NJ. The victim reported he was house-sitting for a friend, and upon exiting the home, a male wearing a ski mask approached him. The male was armed with a handgun, and told the victim to “hand it over.” The victim replied that he did not have any money and turned his back to the gunman. The gunman then shot the victim once in the lower leg, robbed him and fled the scene on foot.

The victim had his cellular telephone, approximately $120.00 incash and car keys taken from him. The gunman was described as a tall, thin black male wearing a ski mask covering his entire face. One shell casing and one expended projectile were recovered from the scene of the shooting. They were later submitted to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for analysis. Further investigation resulted in detectives identifying Jamal ROBINSON as the suspect in this shooting.

Next, on July 7, 2016, at approximately 11:46 p.m., a male victim was dropped off at the front door of the Englewood Police Department, suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm. Subsequent investigation led detectives to the vicinity of Reade and Orange Streets in Englewood, NJ. A canvass of the area revealed a blood trail in the rear yard of 105 Orange Street. Five shell casings were recovered in that area and turned over to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department.

Subsequent investigation led detectives to identify Jamal ROBINSON as the suspect in this shooting as well.

Based on the collective evidence gathered during the investigation, Jamal ROBINSON was arrested and charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, one count of Armed Robbery (July 5, 2016), two counts of Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and two counts of Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

The Honorable Edward A. JEREJIAN of the Bergen County Superior Court was contacted and issued the Warrants for Jamal ROBINSON. Bail was set at $1,000,000, with no ten percent option and no contact with the victims. ROBINSON was remanded to the Bergen County Jail.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor GREWAL states that the charges against Jamal ROBINSON are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Acting Prosecutor GREWAL would like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, the Englewood Police Department and the Teaneck Police Department for their assistance with this investigation.
