Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. GREWAL announced the arrest of RAMON SERNA (DOB: 06/27/1978) of 779 Parkway Drive, Henderson, North Carolina on a drug charge. This arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Officer in Charge Deputy Chief Robert ANZILOTTI, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Terence OPIOLA, and the Paramus Police Department, under the direction of Chief Kenneth EHRENBERG.
On Sunday, July 17, 2016, law enforcement personnel conducted a motor vehicle stop for investigative purposes on a vehicle traveling westbound on Route 4 in Paramus, New Jersey. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized approximately one (1) kilogram of suspected heroin from a bag belonging to a passenger identified as Ramon SERNA. Mr. SERNA was then placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Paramus, New Jersey for further investigation. The estimated street value of the suspected heroin seized on this date is approximately one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00).
Ramon SERNA was charged with one (1) count of violating N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5A(1)/5B(1) – Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Heroin, in a Quantity of Five (5) Ounces or More, a first degree crime. Bail for Mr. SERNA was set at $150,000.00 with no ten percent cash option and he was subsequently remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
Acting Prosecutor Grewal states that this charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Department of Homeland Security Investigations and Paramus Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
