26-Year-Old Malika Jones Found Guilty in Fatally Stabbing Her Mother in 2020

On November 3, 2023, a Union County jury returned a guilty verdict against Malika Jones,26 of Rahway, for the fatal stabbing of her mother in 2020. After a three-week trial before Judge Thomas Isenhour, Judge of the Union County Superior Court, Jones was found guilty of Aggravated Manslaughter. The Jury returned with a verdict after deliberating for a day and half.

On February 16, 2020, Rahway Police Department officers responded to a home on the 100 block of East Albert Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, Inell Jones, 58, with a fatal stab wound to the upper chest. Inell Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, and shortly after Malika Jones was taken into custody.

During the investigation, a man had stated to the investigator that he heard yelling from Jones’s mother asking for someone to call the ambulance because her daughter had just harmed herself. He also stated that he heard dishes breaking before Jones fatally attacked her mother. After the stabbing, Jones called 911 and stated that her mother was unresponsive and that a stabbing occurred accidentally. Jones told officers that her mother was trying to harm her and reacted in self-defense.

Malika Jones has a scheduled sentencing hearing on January 26, 2024, before Judge Thomas Isenhour.
