At approximately 8:30 in the morning, police officers responded to a report that a 23-year-old female was struck by a vehicle between Salem Avenue and Aberdeen Road. When the police arrived, they discovered the female laying on the front lawn of a residency on Salem Avenue with numerous severe injuries.

Upon the arrival of the police, she was transported to the University Hospital in critical condition. Witnesses at the scene specified that the suspect was a male driving a silver Mitsubishi SUV, who was in a minor accident earlier in the nearby area and attempted to flee the scene. The suspect drove his car into the victim and she began to run onto the lawn to avoid getting hit. The suspect drove over the victim twice, then fled the scene. Later that morning, the Elizabeth patrol found the suspect sitting in the passenger seat, in the beat-up SUV on Jefferson Avenue in the city.
