On July 9th, 2025, the arrest of John C. Stewart, age 33, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. John C. Stewart was charged with second-degree sexual assault by sexual contact, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of third-degree burglary, third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, fourth-degree lewdness, fourth-degree trespassing, and disorderly persons lewdness. The arrest and charges against John C. Stewart were a result of an investigation launched by Chief Matthew Finck of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Chief Joseph Dawiki of the Fair Lawn Police Department.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, their Special Victims Unit was contacted by the Fair Lawn Police Department about an alleged incident of public lewdness at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Detectives during an investigation uncovered that on two separate occasions during the month of July 2025, John C. Stewart, a former employee of the school, had allegedly trespassed and masturbated in different locations around the school building. During one occasion there were children present inside of the building for a summer activity taking place on school grounds. There is no evidence to support that John C. Stewart had made any contact with any of the children present during the summer activity. John C. Stewart was located and arrested on July 9th, 2025 in Paramus, New Jersey.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against John C. Stewart are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
