On April 30th, 2025, the arrest of Diamond Smith, age 18, was announced by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. Diamond Smith was charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, first-degree Criminal Use of a Firearm, four counts of Attempted Assault in the first degree, two counts of second-degree Assault, two counts of Attempted Assault in the second-degree, two counts of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest and charges against Diamond Smith were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD Detectives Alisa Colon of the 49th Precinct Squad, and Robert Altieri of the Gun Violence Suppression Division.
According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, the two victims, ages 12 and 13, were eating at the McDonalds located on White Plains Road near Mace Avenue in Allerton, New York. Diamond Smith was outside of said McDonalds and mistakenly took the two boys for rival street gang members, subsequently contacting Dreshawn Lucas, 21, to come to her location. Dreshawn Lucas drove to the McDonalds along with Waynol Recio, 19, where Wayne Recio opened fire on the two boys. The 12-year-old sustained injuries from being shot in his leg, buttocks, and back, while the 13-year-old was only shot a single time in the leg.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Diamond Smith are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
